Ashwini Mudra (Horse Gesture)

The word "Ashwini" means "Horse" and, in this context, the word Mudra means "attitude". Therefore, this mudra can be translated as "the attitude of horse".

 
  • Why the name of this Gesture is "Ashwini Mudra"?

If you watch the anus of a horse, you will see that the horse very often does the yogic practice of this ashwini mudra: the horse rhythmically contracts & relaxes the anus muscles.

So in a short description, ashwini mudra is a rhythmic contraction & relaxation of the Anus sphincter muscles.

This is not the same that Mula Bandha.


  • Method:

  1. After sitting in any comfortable meditative Asana keep the spine straight.

  2. Few belly breathing & bring your awareness on mooladhara chakra or the anus sphincter muscles.

  3. Contract & relaxe the anus muscles rhythmically 20 to 30 times

  4. Keep your breathing normal.


  • Duration:

    • 20 to 30 times in one round.

    • Repeat it for 3 to 5 round.


  • Benefits:

    • Helps to improve the quality of awareness & makes the mind quite/calm.

    • Helps to boost the immune system/will make you energetic.

    • Helps to slow down the aging process (every want).

    • Helps to solve the problem of constipation, piles, fistula & hemorrhoids...etc..

    • Helps in the problems related to the menstruation.

    • Very good exercise for pregnant lady for natural delivery...

    • Helps for Awakening the Kundalini Shakti.

  • Note:

    • Bowel/bladder should be empty.

    • Don't practice during the menstruation (3-4 days).

    • Practice in the Guidance of a teacher
